As a technical illustrator/animator, my goal is to reveal the beauty of science and provide a window to the intricate world of molecular machinery. I try to highlight this elegance and complexity with visuals that are not only engaging, but also deeply rooted in the science. This collection is a series of protein visualizations, crafted using structural data from the RCSB Protein Data Bank (PDB). Most have been brought into Blender using Brady Johnston’s exceptional Molecular Nodes plugin, with refinements in After Effects and Photoshop. Some images were created for clients, but most were experiments to develop novel workflows and to create images that are both scientifically meaningful and visually compelling. Different design choices provide alternative ways of understanding these complex structures. Ultimately, this collection represents a fusion of scientific inquiry and artistic creativity. Each image is a snapshot, capturing the symmetries and dynamic shapes of proteins in a way that informs and inspires. My hope is that these works showcase the remarkable beauty of proteins and serve as an entry point for deeper exploration, sparking curiosity.
