jBio is our new JavaScript library at the heart of VisualPredictProtein , the on-line PredictProtein results explorer. jBio represents a new solution to on-line bioinformatics knowledge presentation. It offers the same sophistication that we see in our favourite on-line services: straightforward and familiar controls, rich user interactions and themable look. PredictProtein is a comprehensive server that includes several cutting-edge tools for protein structure and function prediction. VisualPredictProtein ( VPP ), our JavaScript results explorer for PredictProtein was introduced in order to keep up with the high standards of modern web resources. At the heart of VPP is our new JavaScript bioinformatics library jBio. For the developer jBio is highlighted by the use of well-established methodologies such as object-oriented programming with multiple inheritance, asynchronous JavaScript + XML (AJAX) and jQuery, a leading JavaScript library that facilitates rapid development. Our library also encourages the standardization of the look and feel of on-line bioinformatics resources by providing a customizable base set of presentation and interaction modules to build upon.
