Ensembl Genomes consists of separate portals for each of five distinct domains of life: bacteria, protists, fungi, plants, and invertebrate metazoa. In each domain, we aim to bring the integrative power of Ensembl tools for comparative analysis, data mining and visualisation across genomes of scientific interest, working in collaboration with scientific communities to improve and deepen genome annotation and interpretation. These have been customised for the species in Ensembl Genomes; for example, in Ensembl Bacteria, a circular view of the genome is provided, and the top-level pages have been designed to provide structured access to the large numbers of similar strains that have been sequenced in many clades. The main functionality offered by the portals is access to a graphical view of each genome, using the Ensembl genome browser software. The browser offers a number of views of locations in the genome, genes, and specific transcripts; tabs at the top of the page allow users to switch between these different levels, while a context-dependent left hand menu offers access to a selection of data views specific to each.
