Here I represented (using Processing: https://processing.org/) the expression of mitochondrial related genes (as defined by the human mito-interactome provided by Yim, et al., Nucleic Acids Res. 2020; DOI: 10.1093/nar/gkz1128) of a 92 years old woman's fibroblasts. Data from: Fleischer, et al., Genome Biol 2018, DOI:10.1186/s13059-018-1599-6. On each pixel row lies the center of a circle representing one mito-gene. Upregulated genes are represented in blue and downregulated genes in red. Moreover, gene name opacity, circle color opacity and size as well as 3D shape of each gene is related to the degree of deregulation of the respective mito-gene. In this representation we easily notice that the 2 most deregulated mito-genes, defining her profile or "portrait", are EFHD1 (belonging to the Calcium Signaling & Transport pathway) and OTC (belonging to the Nitrogen Metabolism pathway).
