Mesoscale cellular models are powerful tools for exploring cellular environments to aid scientific research but also for outreach and education. When thinking about cells, the first mental image we have is the textbook sphere with some organelles floating in the middle. That idea is far from reality, as we know cells are extremely crowded environments. Our laboratory recently published the first 3D model of an entire bacterial cell (Mycoplasma genitalium, MG) built using the CellPACK suite. We are using that model to promote a more realistic image of a cell by producing a movie that illustrates various aspects of the molecular world. Here we present the movie storyboard together with some visualization tools we are using to expose desired features.
