This molecular illustration is intended to spark interest in CRISPR-Cas9 and gene editing therapies. The cellular environment and proteins are designed and rendered to be aesthetically pleasing, while the graphical and diagrammatic elements help simplify the scientific story. Diagrammatic insets explain the mechanisms by which Cas9 uses guide RNA to cleave double-stranded DNA. The visuals were created using PDB structures, VMD, Pixologic ZBrush, Autodesk 3DS Max, and rendered in Arnold. PDB accession codes: 4zt0 and 5f9r.
