The use of fluorescent proteins has revolutionized biological research: biological phenomenon once invisible can now be seen in realtime and in vivo. A necessary --- and at times cumbersome --- step in genetically engineering fluorescent protein expressing organisms is the construction of a properly formatted DNA construct. To expidite this construction process, my colleagues and I developed an efficient means to rapidly generate DNA constructs without restriction enzymes. This resource --- which we dub pTransgenesis --- can be used in a variety of model organisms (frogs, fish, flies, and mammals) and utilizes wide variety of flourescent proteins (Love et al. 2011 PMID: 22110059 ). Please contact the EXRC for plasmid requests (xenopus@port.ac.uk).
