Currently, sequencing centers are churning out billions of nucleotides a day. Vast amounts of sequencing and comparative data are available. We present GenomeView, a genome browser designed to visualize the next generation of sequencing and comparative data. First of all, GenomeView is a genome browser and has all features that one would expect from a genome browser. It can display DNA sequences, annotation features and it can plot graphs. Furthermore, it enables users to dynamically browse high volumes of aligned short read data - Illumina/Solexa, ABI Solid, Roche 454. GenomeView allows the user to navigate multiple short read data files, with dynamic navigation and zooming from the whole genome level to the single nucleotide. At the same time, GenomeView also enables visualization of whole genome alignments of many dozen genomes relative to a reference. Despite handling these huge data sets (millions of aligned reads, dozens of aligned species), it remains lightning fast.
