Metabolic pathways represent series of chemical reactions occurring within a cell, where each reaction is catalyzed by enzymes. A key interest of biological research is to gain a fast overview over the metabolic pathways active in a given condition, ideally in an interactive fashion. Here we address the problem of how to integrate and visualize interactively qualitative and quantitative proteomics data about these enzymes in the context of metabolic pathways. The metabolic pathways used for this purpose are obtained from KEGG in XML format. We focus on the organism A. thaliana because of already available tissue specific high quality proteomics data. From these data, protein spectral counts were calculated, which provide a rough estimation of protein abundance in the respective tissue. KeggViz performs than a layout on demand for each metabolic pathway, highlighting properly metabolites, reaction nodes and complex compounds with dark red, green or blue respectively. The reaction nodes, which correspond to enzymes, are then colored differently, depending on the fact if the respective enzyme/protein has been identified in a given tissue or not.
