SBGN (Systems Biology Graphical Notation) is an international collaboration to provide standard graphical / visual representations of biochemical and cellular processes in an unambiguous way. SBGN has three types notation: process description, entity relationship, and activity flow. The standard defines a comprehensive set of symbols, with precise semantics, together with detailed syntactic rules defining their usage. Here we present SBGN-ED, a tool which allows to create all three types of SBGN maps from scratch or edit existing maps, to validate these maps for syntactical and semantical correctness, to translate networks from the KEGG database into SBGN, to layout and explore such maps, and to export SBGN maps into several file and image formats.
