We present visual comparisons of five taxonomies that are used in metagenomic analyses, namely, NCBI, RDP, SILVA, Greengenes together with the recently published Open Tree of Life classification. For comparison we use seven main ranks that are used in most taxonomic classifications: domain, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species and map taxonomies on each other. Taxonomies are visualised as bars subdivided into ranks and pairwise mappings (comparisons) are shown as lines connecting both bars.
