Enrico Bertini (University of Konstanz, Konstanz, Germany)
INCIDE is a center established within the University of Konstanz that provides and develops algorithms for the analysis and visualization of highly complex scientific data repositories, i.e., efficient methods for (semi) automated data analysis, data mining, numerical simulation and parameter estimation, and for visual and interactive data exploration. INCIDE is intended to link the Graduate School Chemical Biology, the Department of Computer Science and Information Science, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Research Training Group "Explorative Analysis and Visualization of Large Information Spaces". In this presentation I will present the main objectives of this newly established inter-disciplinary center and give a preview of the most common and challenging data and image analysis problems we encounter when speaking with experts in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Konstanz (like segmentation of cells in large sets of movies and the analysis of high throughput screening data).
