Synthetic biology is application of engineering principles to biological objects, aimed to create novel bio systems. Design of nature is a complex issue because of numerous stakeholders involved, and lack of necessary background to process scientific information among public complicates the public-scientists dialog. Biofaction, a research and science communication company working with emerging sciences and technology, makes an effort to bridge both communities. It analyses societal dimensions and ramifications of new technologies and new-to-nature organisms, conducts biosafety risk analysis, stimulates public dialog and engagement. Numerous approaches to communicate science were successful to target wide audiences: a film festival featuring films on any aspect of synthetic biology, a computer game on lantibiotics synthesis, a bio-art exhibition and a space for art-science collaboration, short films on synthetic biology and biodiversity, school packages, numerous workshops to stimulate a dialog and foster interactions with public, the industry, and the media. These science communication projects involve numerous European partners from academia, civil society, industry and art.
