Eva Klose, Gideon Bergheim (Eva Klose - Design, Heidelberg and IPMB, Heidelberg)
The presented poster series is the result of a cooperation between creative professionals and Ph.D. students doing research at the IPMB of the University of Heidelberg. The goal was to create media for an exhibition featuring scientific themes in ways that arouse curiosity and make the research projects interesting and accessible for a broad public. Gideon Bergheim, my science-partner, works with cnidarians. More particular: Hydra magnipapillata. Every poster focuses on one of the many amazing qualities these creatures have. By matching a feature with a famous movie-title we felt it triggers the attention of the spectator to learn more. The Hydra becomes the star. In the red poster, for example - „La grande bouffe“ - the poster is showcasing the unusual reflex-driven eating habits of a hydra: it will swallow pretty much anything which touches its tentacles. Regardless of whether it is actually past the stage of „being full“. And even animals which clearly exceed it in size, such as tadpoles.
