In our 'Virtual Cell' project we are developing a next generation interactive learning tool called „Interactive Cell Explorer“ (I.C.E.). We are giving students the opportunity to explore a living cell within a game-inspired environment, allowing them to freely move inside a cell, observe intracellular mechanisms and even influence them. We give students the opportunity to perform their own virtual experiments in an environment that could not otherwise be seen. This way they gather a deeper understanding of what they should learn and they can collect more information in less time, because their studies are driven by their own curiosity. The application will be published as Open Source, so that anyone can use or expand it. For further information you can visit our homepage (http://www.znb.rwth-aachen.de) or contact us via Skype (SkypeID: virtual.cell).
