The Savant Genome Browser is a lightweight desktop application designed to help bridge the gap between how we visualize genomic data and how we compute with it. While the Savant interface is similar to other genome browsers, it features a number of novel interface elements and visualization modes that help reveal important information from the data. Savant is capable of handling gigabytes of data – including high-throughput sequencing read alignments – that are stored locally, remotely, or even in SQL databases, enabling access to UCSC and 1000 Genomes databases. Most importantly, Savant is fully extendable through a rich plugin API that allows users to add sophisticated analytic components that compute on the underlying data in realtime. By designing the software to be programmable, our users have the power to customize Savant to their specific visualization and analysis needs.
