Getting poster data...

Yellow canopy syndrome is a mystery sugarcane disease causing millions of dollars of losses in lost yield. It is unknown whether the cause is a pathogen, nutrient deficiency of some variety, or other type of stress. In an attempt to understand its cause, Sugar Research Australia is assembling an extensive resource of metabolomics, transcriptomics and proteomics data, with the goal of canvasing the metabolic pathways involved during the process. As the disease is unknown, a variety of tissue types and plant conditions are being investigated, in addition to blending data from different platforms, in the context of a poorly annotated plant species. The pathway visualisation challenge, thus, is one of layers: looking at many different protein subsets, across different plant tissues and leaf portions, whilst relying on better annotated C4 plants. Some of the tools we employed generate and compare functional annotation of many protein subsets, projecting on pathways from related plants such as sorghum and maize, and exploring pathways changes across the variety of stress conditions considered. Regarding finding the true cause of the disease, the game is still afoot.
