Plants are under constant threat from attack by invaders. Once such invader, called rust fungi, grow and thrive by eating plants, such as wheat. Globally, infections of rust fungus destroy 15 million tonnes of wheat each year. That’s a loss of almost 3 billion (US) dollars worth of wheat. This upcoming animation will explore the full invasion process of rust fungi. The video also explains how plants are sometimes able to defend themselves from rust invasion with their resistance proteins, which act like an immune system.
