Stemformatics provides an easy visualisation, exploration and reference tool for stem cell biologists. It was designed with the feedback of end-users and the aims of clarity, simplicity and transparency. Stemformatics has a visualisation aspect of the front end user interface that has recently been completed, the back end annotations that are being developed currently and the big data aspect that will need to be developed for the YuGene transform. The front end user interface was recently improved so that all functionality was visually exposed in a balanced way that made it easy for new users to find functionality and power users to quickly get things done. Due to limited funding, annotation tasks have to be delegated to dataset requestors that have limited training and knowledge which is why a clear and precise iterative visualisation process is needed. With the YuGene transform providing cross-platform gene expression comparison, Stemformatics is on the cusp of having to visualise big data and change the way that biologists explore data within Stemformatics.
