Virtual Participation

VIZBI 2016 virtual participants will be able to access a live web stream of high-quality video covering all scheduled talks during the main conference (but not the tutorials). The web streaming service also allows virtual participants to type in questions for the speaker via chat, which are passed to the session chair during question period at the end of each talk. We highly recommend you first test the web streaming on your system using EMBL's Media Requirements page. Virtual participants can also choose to upload a short video which will be displayed during one of the Lightning talk session - for details, see the Posters page. The registration deadline for virtual participation is 22 February 2016.

EMBL Corporate Partnership Programme Fellowships

A limited number of EMBL Advanced Training Centre Corporate Partnership Programme (CPP) fellowships are available for this meeting in the form of both Registration Fee Waivers and Travel Grants. You may apply for an EMBL CPP Registration Fee Waiver and/or Travel Grant when submitting your abstract. Whilst submitting your abstract (Step 2 after you have registered your personal details) you will also be asked to complete a field with the name of your lab and the country in which it is based, and to answer some questions to detail your reasons for requesting this fellowship. A statement of support from your budget holding supervisor explaining a) their support for your attendance and b) support provided by the laboratory budget is required to complete the application.

The following fellowships are available:

Registration Fee Waiver: The sum that you have paid to attend the meeting will be reimbursed.

Travel Grant: Up to �400 for participants travelling from the European continent and up to �1000 for participants travelling from outside Europe (receipts of travel will be submitted to the EMBL Course and Conference Office and the exact sum for travel expenses up to the cap will be reimbursed).

Participants coming from the following countries will be given priority: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Ukraine and Turkey. Africa, South and Central America and Asia (excluding China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea).

To apply, you need to complete both steps below on or before 6 January 2016:

  1. Register for VIZBI 2016 using the link above.
  2. Use the FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION LINK included in your registration confirmation email to submit an application for support.
    In your application, you will need to indicate whether you wish to apply for a fee waiver, a travel grant, or both. In support of your request, you must also provide all of the following information:
    • A title and 250 word abstract for the work you plan to present in your VIZBI poster (please note, this will not be published).
    • The name and email address of your lab head, as well as the institute and country you are based.
    • A statement from your supervisor explaining support provided by the laboratory budget.
    • A statement of support from your supervisor explaining their support for your attendance.
    • Reasons why your lab can not fund your attendance.
    • An account of how attending this conference will make a difference to your career.
    • A description of how you will contribute extraordinarily to this conference.

PLEASE NOTE: CPP Registration Fellowships are only available to support attendance of the VIZBI meeting. We cannot offer support to applicants wishing to attend the VIZBI Tutorial Day only.

If you are awarded a fellowship, you will be notified in early January 2016. Please note that you must pay your registration fee by the payment deadline (31 January 2016). The EMBL Course & Conference Office will request your bank details and will reimburse the registration fees after the event. Travel Grants can only be reimbursed after the event, and once the receipts have been submitted.

Press Registration

Accredited journalists may be eligible to register for a reduced press rate. Registrants may be required to provide accreditation or equivalent proof of press membership after registration. Acceptance of press registration is granted at EMBL's discretion. If your application for a reduced press rate is not accepted, you will still be able to finalise your registration at the academic rate with an online payment.
